Location

London

OMM were briefed by Nike to design and develop a ground-breaking football boot try-on experience using the latest in digital technology.

Outcome

Interactive Trial Zone

Collaborating closely with Nike athletes, we engineered an advanced digital play space featuring a custom LED net, invisible infrared tracking, digital kickboards with precision vibration sensors, and a markerless motion capture system - every touch, pass, and kick is flawlessly tracked. Built in Unity, the system seamlessly integrates with Nike’s Membership services, allowing instant connection between trials and consumers’ Nike app accounts to move straight to purchase after each trial.

Pre-production

Authentic Trials

Designed with input from a Nike Master Trainer, each trial is crafted to highlight the core strengths of the Phantom and Mercurial boots—precision and speed.

Pre-production

Extensive Prototyping

Rigorous testing and research were crucial in developing the custom LED technology and ensuring the motion-tracked system performed flawlessly.

Pre-production

Gamified Trial Experience

Building on our work with the master trainers, we developed a set of three gamified trials based on key product features; Control, Touch, Accuracy. These interactive challenges featured a scoring system that rewarded skill development, offering participants a chance to earn their spot on the leaderboard.

Pre-production

Nike Systems Integration

Our development team securely exchanged data, integrating it seamlessly into Nike’s membership and Mobile Point of Sale systems. This ensured smooth and secure data flow and enabled accurate tracking of product purchases without compromising user anonymity or privacy.

Outcome

iPad Controller

A custom-built iPad app controlled the whole experience, from player sign-ups to initiating trials and tracking scores, allowing the entire process to be effortless for both staff and participants.

Outcome

Leaderboard

After each trial, players receive their scores via email, and top performers earn a spot on the in-store leaderboard. The best scores also qualify players to represent their London borough in future competitions. The trials challenge players to improve their performance with every attempt, with scores tracked so they can come back and aim for the top.

Technology

Custom-made LED Netting

As a part of the research and engineering around the project our technology team went to Shenzhen and worked with a supplier to engineer a new type of LED product which we utilised to display high - impact graphics in the display.

Technology

Marker-less Motion Tracking

Using a camera capture system we tracked peoples movement throughout the space and added or subtracted points from the gamified system if they for example hit one of the cones as they were moving through the space.

Technology

Digital Kickboards

The Control trial featured three wireless kickboards, each equipped with sensors to measure the impact of the consumer's kicks. Guided by animated motion graphics on the LED net, participants aimed to hit the correct kickboard as quickly as possible. The kickboards synced with the Unity framework, which calculated points based on the speed and accuracy of each hit, adding an extra layer of challenge and engagement.

VR Proof of Concept

Before it came to life, the Cage was fully designed in VR, allowing Nike’s leadership to step inside and experience the setup firsthand, ensuring the vision aligned perfectly before it was built.
