Nike partnered with OMM to craft a standout immersive retail experience that brings their latest product innovation to life, allowing consumers to explore the cutting-edge features of their football team kit’s new Dri-Fit ADV material.
Outcome
Keeps You Cool
Created in Unreal Engine and utilising the MoveAI motion tracking system, the experience encouraged consumers to step into a tunnel where they transformed into a glowing orange avatar displayed on an LED screen. This avatar tracked every movement seamlessly, shifting from warm to cool as users navigated the interaction zone, vividly showcasing the cooling properties of the Dri-Fit ADV material.
Outcome
Keeps You Dry
Upon entering the tunnel, consumers encountered a close-up representation of the national kit covered in moisture. By waving their arms within the interactive zone, the Dri-Fit ADV’s moisture-wicking properties were dynamically revealed in real time through a second motion-tracking system animation.
Pre-production
3D Avatar and Clothing Physics
We highlighted Dri-Fit ADV’s warm-to-cool capabilities by using an avatar with real-time clothing physics and particle effects to illustrate the shirt’s heat transfer properties. To enhance the interaction, a visual trail followed the avatar’s movements. Early collaboration between our creative and development teams was essential in prototyping these real-time effects. By accurately simulating cloth textures and moisture-wicking with physical product samples, we achieved a lifelike digital representation of the material.
Unreal Engine and Move AI Integration
Working in Unreal, we integrated the Move AI system and created a beautiful canvas on which we could bring the Avatar to life in real time. We used a rapid, iterative process to test and learn along the way.
Technology
Real-Time Markerless Motion-capture
The technology driving our two installations was crucial for creating engaging experiences in a bustling retail environment. For the Keeps You Cool installation, we employed Move Live’s markerless motion-capture system, FLIR cameras, and Unreal Engine, enabling consumers to see their avatar move with just 100ms latency. The Keeps You Dry installation used Zedcam cameras and Unity Engine to ensure precise movement tracking within the interactive zone.
Early Testing of the Move AI System
We setup a prototype of the installations at our London studios so that we could test the Move AI system at the early stages of the project, allowing our design and development teams to establish the best approach using this new technology.
